exploring the difference in dynamics of my many fav boybands

ok so i was trying to start on a post abt how txt (mostly soob, kai and yeonjun) really remind me so much of ethan and benny from my babysitter’s a vampire but this kinda turned into a lil dynamics study (well not really bc i’m too brain rotted to form my thoughts out articulately like that, but just me observing what i think abt different kpop group vibes).

txt: first txt. like i said, they give me big ethan & benny energy. i think it’s bc txt are lowkey nerds and losers (affectionately). soobin, beomgyu, and kai all love league, soob and kai are self-admitted otakus, yeonjun’s hobby is literally legos and at one point his fav movie was tall girl, and taehyun is the most athletic but also deep into pokemon and other nerdy stuff. they just feel so gen z to me—like cousins who spend every summer together or neighborhood best friends who grew up on the same block and eventually started a little emo band in someone’s garage.

they don’t give me the “family” vibe the way bts does. maybe it’s the smaller age gap, maybe it’s bc they were the first group i stanned who were actually my age. but they feel more like childhood friends than siblings. they’re not overly affectionate like skz are (ofc they have their moments but in general)… don’t really flirt flirt w each other besides yeonkai (or honestly maybe just kai with all of them lol). most of the time they’re joking abt how they can’t stand each other, but then when someone’s struggling they all pull together. like with soobin’s hiatus very visibly having an effect on all of them and especially beomgyu in that live.

skz: on the other hand, skz feel much more like an “idol group.” like if you’re just looking in from the surface level. they definitely lean into affection and playful flirting for the camera. not in a bad way—it’s fun!—but sometimes i can’t tell if it’s fanservice or just them.

i want to go more in depth on skz bc they're obvs much more than that, but to be totally honest i haven’t been keeping up with them that closely the past yr or maybe two, so i don’t trust myself to like get it totally right. so sorry to just use them as kinda a point of comparison to txt, but it was in my head and i needed to let it out.

nct wish: and then nct wish… i’ve been getting into them lately and they’re just. babies. actual babies. so cute. their dynamic is interesting too bc on the kr side of the fandom people say sion (the oldest & korean member) treats all the younger japanese members like little sisters lol but treats jaehee (the other korean member) like a little brother.

they just seem like really good kids..and their humor already feels diff than txt’s even if i compare them to when txt were the same age..it’s much lighter? not as mean-spirited toward each other (which again is fine..i looove txt’s humor actually) but it’s refreshing to see and something i haven’t really noticed in other groups i follow. and like very middle school boy jokes with ryos obsession with poop and saku blowing his fart on yushis face LOL. 

1d: ok and now this was supposed to stop at kpop but i’ve been in my “pretend it’s 2013 again” feels w watching baby one direction tiktoks and i have to include them. they were my first band and their early dynamic is so intriguing and heartwarming and heartbreaking bc of what happened.

like it’s so different from the typical kpop trainee experience—these boys all went to audition with the intent of being solo artists, not in a group, and they all came from very middle-class, working towns and families (besides maybe harry). yk like they were not a part of the entertainment world at all. just normal small-town kids. and suddenly they’re thrown together and yet immediately hit it off? like the hugs when they’re told abt being put in a group..they don’t even know each other yet they’re already rooting for each other. and like you just see these kids figuring themselves and everything else out all on live tv and i think that’s why people immediately loved them.

and i think their success is actually more similar to bts in a way...where they’re the only ones who could really get it. like only they have an understanding of what it’s like to massively blow up and be put on this pedestal for the whole world to judge as young adults..like to have everything u want right at your fingertips at such a young age..must do wonders on someone’s psyche.
